Intelmens Summer and Winter Houses

Intelmens Culture, oldest in Kamchatka Region, Russia; in use from most ancient times to present, the people live in raised pyramidal stilt houses in summer and earth pit lodges in winter, located in the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (valleys of the Avacha and Kamchatka rivers).

Elevation varies c. (250 feet) above sea level.

Materials: summer house: wood piers, beams and pyramidal roof structure covered with skins; winter pit house: wood structure supporting roof of sod and moss.
