Broch of Gurness

Ancestral Scottish culture, begun 500 B.C.E., located on the northwest coast of Orkney, Scotland; it housed and fortified an entire community.

Elevation is c. 7 meters (22 feet) above sea level on the coastal shore.

Materials: stone walls; wood roof structures; thatch roofing.
