Huari or Recuay (pre-Inca) cultures still not determined; carbon-dated occupation Huari or Recuay (pre-Inca) cultures still not determined; carbon-dated occupation from c. 200 B.C.E. to 550 C.E.; located adjacent to an important mountain pass at 11,400 ft above sea level in the Ancash Region in central Peru, on the eastern slope of the Andean mountain range called the Cordillera Blanca; consisting of multi-ethnic rectangular buildings called chullpas (2-3 stories), courtyards (1 story), and D-shaped rooms (possibly multi-storied towers)

Elevation is c. 3464 meters (11365 feet) above sea level.

Materials: megalithic stones, stone walls, wood roof beams and purlins, thatch roof.
