Huacas de Moche (Pyramids of the Sun and Moon) Moche Culture, consisting of the Huaca de la Luna and the Huaca del Sol, are the remains of Cerro Blanco, the ancient Moche capital city, which was occupied between 100 C.E. and 800 C.E. Located 4 kilometers outside of the nothern Peruvian city of Trujillo, near the mouth of the Moche River valley. Huaca del Sol is closet to the River and is one of the largest pyramids in the world. Huaca de la Luna consists of three ritual plaza levels the highest of which was used for human sacrifice. Location coordinates: 8°07'58.6"S 78°59'32.3"W Elevation is c. 34 meters (113 feet) above sea level. Material of construction: Adobe brick.
