Ki (desert winter house) of the Pima and Papago
Above: Examples of Ki (houses) constructed at the Huhugam Ki Museum, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Pima and Papago cultures, traditional winter house, located in Arizona along the Salt and Gila Rivers, tributaries of the Colorado River. These houses are well known for their abiltiy to maintain a much cooler interior temperature in the extreme exterior desert heat. Elevation is 361 meters (1186 feet) above sea level. Materials: mud wainscot and roof cap, willow and arrowweed brush wall structure, and cottonwood four-post main structure. Data for CG model:
