Kutlug Tepe

 

Bactrian culture (Afghanistan) from 1st Millenium, B.C.E., when Bactria was a province of the Achaemenid Empire. This palace's open central courtyard and the altar in the middle are similar to the plan prescribed for sacred and royal structures as provided in the Hindu Vāstu texts, confirming continuity with older ideas of different times and places.

Elevation is c. 297 meters (977 feet) above sea level.
