Earth Lodge Prototype and Miti-O-pa-e-resh (On-A-Slant Village), Mandan-Hidatsa-Arikara Cultures, North Dakota

Traditional Earth Lodge, Mandan-Hidatsa-Arikara combined cultures, first encountered by Europeans c. 1800 C.E.; located on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation on the Upper Missouri River's Lake Sakakawea in west-central North Dakota.

Elevation is c. 580 meters (1900 feet) above sea level.

Materials: wood structure covered with sod, and banked with earth berm.

Miti-O-pa-e-resh (On-A-Slant Village), Mandan Culture, c. 1575 C.E., palisaded earth lodge village, located within the Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, on the west bank of the Missouri River, south of Mandan, North Dakota.

Elevation is c. 525 meters (1721 feet) above sea level.

Materials: wood palisade, wood structures of lodges covered with sod, and banked with earth berm.
