Inca Civilization; constructed from c.1450 C.E. to 1515 C.E. and abandoned by 1534 C.E. these monumental structures (muyus), build over ancient sinkholes, remain a complete mystery as to their purpose. Some archaeologist believe these concentric circular terrace depressions to be an kind of agricultural experiment station, due to the temperature gradient that occurs from top to the more than 100 meter depth; located 22 miles northwest of Cusco, Peru, at the base of Wanumarka Mountain at an elevation of 3500 meters (11,500 ft.).
