Mudhif - Reed Vaulted House
Marsh Arab (Maʻdān) Culture; first written record, 9th century C.E. but origin date unknown; vaulted houses with arches, beams, purlins, and roofing made from bundled local reeds bent into arches, located on artifial islands of reeds and mud, in the Tigris-Euphrates Rivers marshes, south and east present-day Iraq. Elevation is c. 6 meters (19.69 feet) above sea level. Construction materials: bundled and woven and tied reeds forming arches and cross purlins; woven reed mats form the building envelope, some which ar woven with perforations to allow light and ventillation.
