Nuraghe
Sardinian prehistoric civilization, main type of megalithic edifce developed during the Nuragic Age between 1900 B.C.E. and 730 B.C.E. Sardinia, an island in the Mediterranean Sea, west of Italy, contains many ruins of these villages of round thatch roof houses clustering around a walled tower. The Nuragic village illustrated here is located in Barumini, Sardinia.
Elevation is c. 224 meters (735 feet) above sea level.
Materials: stone walls; wood and stone dome roof structures; thatch roofing.
