Pueblo Alto

Chaco Culture, Chaco Canyon, New Mexico; construction completed c. 1140 C.E.; located in Chaco Culture National Historic Park. This pueblo is unique in Chaco for being only one story high, except for a possible tower kiva on the east wing. Large quatities of turquoise, from a mine near Cerillos, NM, and argillite stone were found here, indicating a center for processing the gemstones into fine art.

Elevation is 1962 meters (6440 feet) above sea level.

Materials: mortarless stone walls, wood log roof structure, with mud/clay roof.
