Pyramids of the Giza Plateau, Egypt Located on the edge of Cairo, Egypt, the monuments have been enigmas to the archaeological community for centuries. Coventional academic archaeologists and Egyptologists believe the earliest pyramids began around 2600 B.C.E, during the early Dynastic period. Other archaeolgists and scientific specialists believe the pyramids are much older and may have been built by a pre-Dynastic lost civilization. Records of the dates and methods of construction of the Giza Pyramids and Sphinx have not been found. The controversy is ongoing.
