Rice Rick

Persian Culture; from ancient times; in the rice growing areas of Gilan and Mazandaran, rice farmers stack unthreshed harvest high and dry on ricks which are supported by four or more pillars. The pillars are connected by wooden beams. Round wooden disks near the pillar tops, below the beams, prevent rodents from getting at the rice. Elevation is c. 70 meters (230 feet) above sea level.

Material: wood or stone pillars and wood beams.
