Templo Major

Aztec Civilization, one of the major temples of the Aztecs, begun in 1325 C.E.; located in the Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan, in what is contemporary Mexico City, Mexico. The Temple was constructed in seven sucessive layers resulting in the form presented here. Temples devoted to the two gods, Huitzilopochtli and Tlaloc, crowned the top platform. The Great Temple was destroyed by the Spanish in 1521 to make space for a new cathedral.

Elevation is c. 2234 meters (7330 feet) above sea level.
