Terra Amata Site
Paleolithic settlement, occupied 427,000 BCE –364,000 BCE, located in Nice, France; tools found dated to the paleolithic 380,000 B.C.E.; the site yielded thr first evident traces of a hearth inidcating the use of fire by Paleolithic Homo erectus or Neandertal humans in Europe. Remains of oval shaped huts found at the site measured 7-15 meters in length and 1-6 meters in width. The site is associated with the Homo erectus ancestor. Elevation is 30 meters (100 feet) above the Mediterranean Sea shore. Materials: base: stone oval or ring; wood columns and ridge pole; wood purlins; thatch or animal skin roof. Data for CG model: |
