Uruk, Eanna Precinct

Sumerian and, later, Babylonian Civilization; was the largest city in Mesopotamia (100 hectares), construction began between 4000 BCE - 3000 BCE and came to an end during the Sassanian period as late as 633 CE; located east of the present-day Euphrates River, 30 kilometers east of modern As-Samawah, Al-Muthanna, in the present city of Warka, Iraq. The earliest known written script was found in the ruins of the city's Eanna Precinct, which was home to Gilgamesh, who ruled as king c. 2700 B.C.E.

Elevation is 16 meters (52 feet) above sea level.

Materials: sun-dried earth (adobe) bricks covered with kiln-fired glased bricks
laid in natural occurring bitumen, wood beams and columns.
