Yayno (Yaynu)

Recuay Culture, 400 C.E. to 800 C.E.. The ancient pre-Inca hilltop center of Yayno, Pomabamba, is located in the Andean north highlands, in Ancash, Peru. This was the center of a network of small farming villages, and was the defensive place for this network, while at the same time keeping the individual villages physically separated. The complex to rectaliear and round structures was ingenious for the way the concentric ring walls were used to support mazes of floor structures.

Materials: stone walls; wood beams for floor and flat roof structure; mud/clay roof over brush mats.
